My Hobby

Transition year is a chance to explore our talents, find new hobbies and improve our old ones. This year I decided I was going to make up for all the time I spent studying last year, by practicing and doing the things I enjoy. While in third year, there was never enough time in the day to do everything I wanted to do. I had to try and balance the amount of time I spent doing homework and studying with the amount of time I spent enjoying my hobbies, and sometimes I had to sacrifice the things I enjoy to study and do homework. This year I am doing the complete opposite to third year. I have plenty of time to practice new songs on the piano, play camogie, read new books, watch new movies, listen to new songs and spend more time with my friends. We are also doing Gaisce this year which means I am going to have to learn a new skill and volunteer to help the community which I am really looking forward to.
Last year I had to stop going to piano lessons because I didn't have enough hours in the week. Now that I am in TY, I am going to start going to piano lessons again and continue doing my grade exams. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that TY is a doss year and we have nothing to do! We still have lots of projects to do and get homework in certain subjects. But it is a year which is dedicated to learning new skills.
My hobbies are really important to me because they let me express who I am through something other than words. For example, people who dance express themselves through the dance, people who sing express themselves through song and there are many more examples. They also allow you to meet new people outside of your school environment and learn how to part of a team if you play a team sport. This is an important skill to have in the outside world.

'In our leisure we reveal what type of person we are.'
